      아도르노의 사회비판론적 측면에서 본 한국음악교육의 방향모색에 관한 연구 = A thesis on the search for direction in Korean music education through Th. W. Adorno’s sociocritical theory

      There were a lot of composers in the history of music who cooperated with political authorities as well as supporting institutional systems. These activities of musicians were connected to their living to exist. Especially, in the early twentieth century, some countries such as Russia, France, England and some east European countries except Germany and Austria tried to establish their own nation's identity and superiority by connecting music to their national trait. They really wanted to show their national images and strong power externally and strengthen the national ties and unity among citizens internally through their national culture and supremacy. The fancy of militarism began to arise in this mood and at the end, the terrible second world war broke out as the result of this kind of national imperialism. And the people could recognize that they should never repeat the miserable fear and death in the history of human beings.
      In this thesis, Adorno defines the humans' cruelty and materialism as 'the alienation of human beings', 'the self-destruction of humanity' and 'the erosion of human ration'. These phenomena drive the modern society into the pathological situations. In order to cure these pathological situations, Adorno suggests two functions of music education as follows.
      First, The critical function of human ration should be recovered. The social function of music was originated from Adorno's sociocritical music theory which enables to recover the human ration. The points of Adorno's sociocritical music education is not to reform the pathological phenomena in modern society through radical revolution but to improve the society gradually through music education. The products of music which integrate human's intelligence and emotion are the best alternatives to be able to purify and recover the human ration.
      Second, the recovery of humanity in the modern society is the basic idea to accomplish the happiness of human beings. 'The self-destruction of humanity' in the modem society are caused because music is performed with implemental function which makes human beings into materials under the system of modern capitalism. Thus, we should change immediately the materialized spirit, which exist in the base of human nature under this capitalistic system, into the humanized spiritual beings with aesthetic and artistic emotions through sociocritical music education. The ideological base of music education is to develop the critical thinking of nature and human society, which harmonize the nature and human beings beyond the wall of race and ideology.
