사물의 제작방식과 가치 : 책의 제작방식과 가치를 중심으로 = Production Method and Value of Object -Focused on Production Method and Value of the Book

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대에는 다양한 사물이 존재하지만 대부분 대량으로 생산되고 소비되는 것들로 장기간 지속적인 가치를 유지하지 못한다. 그에 반해 공예가나 예술가들에 의해 제작되어 온 사물들의 가치는 비교적 높게 평가되어왔다. 이 같은 사물 즉 작품의 가치는 다양한 요인에 의해 발생하겠지만 연구자는 사물을 제작하는 직접적인 행위가 사물의 가치에 미치는 요인에 관해 고찰하였다. 연구를 위한 표본사물로 책을 선정하고 제작방식의 변천과 그에 따른 가치의 변화를 살펴보았다. 책은 산업화에 따른 자동생산방식의 도입으로 기능적 가치가 급격하게 상승한 반면 물질적 가치는 하락하였고 뉴미디어의 등장 이후 점차 존재이유를 상실해 가고 있다. 현대의 대부분의 사물들은 책과 마찬가지로 제작자의 행위와 분리되고 자동화를 통해 생산되면서 가치를 상실했는데 이는 획일적으로 대량생산된 사물들이 개별적 특성을 잃어버린 것에서 하나의 요인을 찾을 수 있다. 하지만 공예가와 예술가들이 사물을 제작하는 방식은 여전히 직접적인 행위가 주를 이루는데 이는 작품에 개별적 특성을 부여하기에 적합한 방식으로 작품의 가치를 높이는 하나의 요인이라 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today, there are innumerable objects. Due to easy production and disposal, most of them do not have value. However, those objects made by craftsman or artist considered as valuable. There must be various factors that give value to those objects, however, I have studied the value of the act of making them. Books have been selected to set as a standard specimen for this research, and I have studied the changes of production methods and value of the book. Since imposed automatic production method, functional value of the book became higher, on the other hand the material value become lower. Eventually, the books are loosing reason for existing. Just like the books, most of the objects lost value after being seperated from act of production and they were produced automatically. One of the factors is that mass producted object lost individual quality. Craftsman or artist's direct act of production is a suitable method for making individual quality in artwork and this method can be one of the factors that enhances the value of the artwork.
