잡지 <신천지>의 매체 전략과 문학의 논리 -정론성, 대중성, 세계성의 내적 역학

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 해방직후~1950년대의 대표적 종합잡지 󰡔신천지󰡕의 매체 전략과 그에 대한 문학의 대응논리를 실증적으로 재구성함으로써 해방 후 한국문학의 역사적 존재방식을 구명하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이는 시대와 문학을 기계적으로 연결시키는 속류사회학적 방법이나 문학텍스트 내부의 형상만을 중시하는 문학주의로는 문학의 사회적․역사적 존재방식을 제대로 해명할 수 없다는 문제의식과, 해방 이후 문학의 전개과정을 좌우 이념대립과 그 해소의 차원으로만 접근했던 연구 관행에 대한 반성적 성찰에서 비롯되었다.
잡지 󰡔신천지󰡕는 해방직후~1950년대 매체와 문학의 상호관계와 그 역동적 변화상을 매우 뚜렷하게 드러내고 있다. 󰡔신천지󰡕가 존속했던 9년(1946.1-54.10)의 시간은 1949년 전향국면을 경계로 양분되는데, 전반기(1946-49.7)는 해방직후의 사상사적․문화사적 분위기와 담론을 함축하고 있고, 후반기(1949.8-54)는 위로부터의 반공국민 만들기와 전향의 강제, 한국전쟁, 전후로 연결되는 시대 분위기와 담론을 폭넓게 드러내고 있다. 다른 한편으로 󰡔신천지󰡕는 당대 문예지에 필적할 만한 문학적 면모를 지니고 있다. 해방 후 현대문학사의 중요 문인들 대부분이 󰡔신천지󰡕에 작품 및 평문을 발표했고, 시 270여 편, 소설은 장편․중편․단편을 포함하여 170여 편, 희곡․시나리오 15편, 수필도 250여 편이 넘게 실려 있다. 주목할 것은 1949년 8월을 경계로 󰡔신천지󰡕에서 벌어지는 담론적 기조와 편폭의 변화가 󰡔신천지󰡕의 문학부문의 변화와 밀접한 상관성을 보인다는 점이다. 따라서 󰡔신천지󰡕는 해방 직후~1950년대 한국현대문학 생성기의 매체 자본과 문학의 구조적 역학을 선명하게 구현한 자료로서 충분한 학문적 타당성을 지닌 연구 대상이라고 할 수 있다.
󰡔신천지󰡕의 매체 전략과 그에 대한 문학의 대응논리를 실증적으로 재구성하기 위해 본 연구는 토대연구와 심화연구를 병행한다. 먼저 실증적 조사와 통계를 바탕으로 이루어지는 토대연구는 매체 쪽으로는 ①출판과 유통 ②편집체계 ③담론 연구가, 문학 쪽에서는 ①문학배치 ②작가 ③작품 ④양식 연구가 이에 속한다. ①출판과 유통 연구는 󰡔신천지󰡕의 기본적 서지사항(편집진, 자본주, 발행, 검열 등)을 밝히는 데서 출발하여, 발행부수와 독자 수의 추이 그리고 유통망의 현황과 추이 등을 연차별로 탐색하는 것이며, ②편집체계 연구는 󰡔신천지󰡕에 게재된 모든 기사들을 호별로 또 갈래별로 정리한 목차표를 작성하는 데서 출발했으며, ③담론 연구는 󰡔신천지󰡕 편집진의 정치적 성향이 직․간접적으로 드러나는 논설(권두언과 편집후기 포함)을 주요 분석 대상으로 한다. 그리고 ①문학배치 연구는 기본적으로 󰡔신천지󰡕에서의 문학배치 현황과 추이를 파악하는 연구로 󰡔신천지󰡕의 전체 기사 중에서 문학이 차지하는 비중과 또 시기별로 문학의 비중에 어떤 변화가 나타나는지 등을 검토하는 것이며, ②작가 연구와 ③작품 연구는 문학배치 연구의 연장선에서 이루어지는 연구로 󰡔신천지󰡕에서의 문학배치 현황과 추이가 파악되면, 이를 작가별․작품별로 계열화하여 분석하는 것이다. ④양식 연구는 게재된 작품들을 갈래별로 통계화하는

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 is the representative media that shows the relativity of media after the liberation and the active changes from the ideological convert to standardized anticommunism. In 1949, there were dramatic changes of the editing route and the main production of magazines. In the first half - year, it aimed to build up an autonomous state so it collected the discussion, the ideological and the cultural atmosphere right after Korea’s liberation, basing on democracy line. And in the second half-year, being a mouthpiece of the conservatism which reflected nonviolent anticommunism on a whim, it conducted as an opinion leader. 󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 ,as Seoul Publishing Company Journal, had received support . Also, it received enough material and human support so relatively it was able to reproduce stably on a favorable position. The editing policy of 󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 is to include internal and external sides called ‘Include Principle’ and it was on an extension of traditional editing of the publishing company journal, including 󰡔Shindonga󰡕. Focusing on anti imperialism and popular foundation, 󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 stood on the progressive democratic view which tried to attain the national aim to build an independent nation democratically, rather than standing on the central position of the impartiality. The popularization strategy of 󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 was to enlighten people. With intellectual enlightenment, it showed continuously social phenomenon and events which were related to readers’ daily life through the reportage. So It strengthened relationship with the readers with the way to promote the understanding of public reality. And it focused on before and after Liberation Korea and extended the creation of agenda to the worldwide area. In this progress, it introduced the flow of international ideology, situation and information intensely. So translation politics which strengthened the democracy functioned. All of these progresses emerged into literature. Likewise, combining politics, popularity and internationalism and making great synergy, 󰡔Shincheonji󰡕 could hold the hegemony in discussion champ.
