陰陽五行觀에서 본 명리학의 강령과 用神의 中和主義的 방법론

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 명리학을 학술의 영역에서 접근하고 그 세계를 이해하는 방법론을 모색하고자 한다. 여기에는 명리학의 강령을 찾아내는 방법론이 중요하다. 그 방법론의 통로로서 사주의 틀과 팔자의 골격에서 음양의 범주와 오행의 연관체계를 유기적으로 구성하는 用神의 기제가 있다. 用神의 기제를 설명하는 논법은 명리학의 대표적 3대 저서인 󰡔子平眞詮󰡕, 󰡔窮通寶鑑󰡕 및 󰡔滴天髓闡微󰡕의 이론적 체계를 중심으로 밝힐 수 있다. 󰡔子平眞詮󰡕의 판본은 󰡔四庫存目子平匯刊󰡕, 鄭同 校 (北京: 華齡, 2014) 제2권에 근거한다. 󰡔窮通寶鑑󰡕의 판본은 󰡔四庫存目子平匯刊󰡕, 鄭同 校 (北京: 華齡, 2015) 제5권에 근거한다. 󰡔滴天髓闡微󰡕의 판본은 󰡔四庫存目子平匯刊󰡕, 鄭同 校 (北京: 華齡, 2015) 제4권에 근거한다.
이들의 이론적 체계는 각각 格局論, 調候論, 體用論으로 대변된다. 이들에 용신의 기제를 접맥하면. 각각 用神格局論의 관계적 구조, 用神調候論의 生態的 구조, 用神體用論의 通神的 구조로 표현될 수 있다.
이른바 用神은 陰陽의 범주에 입각하여 五行의 연관체계를 운용하는 방식이다. 용신의 방식은 음양의 범주와 오행의 연관체계를 활용하여 팔자의 골격, 특히 명리의 구조를 최적의 상태로 운영하는 기제이다. 음양의 범주는 대립과 통일의 상관적 관계로 특징지을 수 있다. 오행의 연관체계는 相生과 相克의 순환적 과정으로 특징지어진다. 사주의 틀과 팔자의 골격을 최적으로 운용하는 용신의 방식은 전통적인 中和說의 심성론에 기초한 中和主義的 차원에서 이해될 수 있다. 따라서 명운의 구조와 그 유기적 운용은 용신의 중화주의적 논법을 통해 밝힐 수 있다.
이러한 중화주의적 방식은 命運을 풀이하는 해석과 通變에 중요한 토대가 된다. 명운의 해석과 통변은 命의 구조와 運의 행로를 파악하여 吉凶禍福의 문제를 올바르게 예측하고 정확하게 판단하는 작업이다. 이러한 명운의 해석과 통변의 작업 속에는 개인 삶의 스토리텔링(storytelling)이 들어있다. 즉 과거, 현재 및 미래의 연속선에서 삶의 歷程, 사건, 인물의 성격 등을 유기적으로 연결하여 인생 旅程의 전체적 흐름을 만들어가는 이야기 짓기이다. 이는 명리학의 역사, 명리학의 체계, 명리학의 방법론, 통변의 사례 등을 활용하여 삶의 통일적 맥락화(contextualization)를 만들어가는 것이다. 이러한 인생의 스토리텔링 혹은 이야기 짓기는 현대의 문화에서 일종의 문화현상으로 이해되며, 더 나아가 구성의 통일적 맥락화를 창출하는 문화콘텐츠의 맥락과도 일치한다. 이러한 성격을 ‘명리학적 문화콘텐츠’로 특화할 수 있다. 이른바 명리학적 문화콘텐츠는 사주의 구조와 그에 따른 팔자의 풀이에 관한 통변의 특수한 해석의 기제를 통해 끊임없이 전승되고 수용될 수 있다.
불확실한 현대사회에서 인간은 끊임없이 욕망을 채우고 물질적 풍요를 추구하며, 독자적 자유를 극대화하고자 한다. 이러한 과정에서 인간은 종종 과도한 긴장, 고독, 파편화된 자아라는 강박관념을 초래하며 불확실한 미래에 대한 불안을 안고 살아가게 된다. 최근 이러한 문제의식에서 의학, 심리학, 생태학, 철학 등의 분야에서는 물리적 혹은 정신적 상담과 치료를 시도해 왔다. 이러한 흐름에 맞추어 명리학의 영역에서도 개인의 삶과 명운에 대한 깊은 통찰을 제공하며, 인간의 삶을 심층적으로 이해하고 문제를 해결하는 치유의 실천적 방편을 제공해 왔다.
명리학은 인간의 삶에서 가장 원초적인 문제인 길흉화복의 이해관계에 대한 해답을 찾으려는 취지를 지닌다. 고대부터 인간은 천문학적 지식과 자연의 법칙을 활용하여 자신의 명운을 이해하고 이를 통해 불확실한 미래에 대한 불안을 극복하고자 했다. 명리학은 이러한 인간의 실천적 요구를 반영하여 발전하였으며, 삶의 다양한 문제를 해결하고 방향성을 제시하는 데 유용한 도구로 활용되어 왔다. 그것은 특히 과거, 현재 및 미래를 유기적으로 연결하는 독특한 시야를 제공한다. 과거는 현재의 기반이 되고 현재는 미래의 초석이 된다. 명리학은 이러한 시간적 연속선상에서 인간의 삶을 총체적으로 이해하고, 이를 통해 미래의 가능성을 탐구하고자 하는 것이다. 그러므로 명운의 통변은 단순히 개인의 과거, 현재 및 미래를 들여다보는 것을 넘어 삶의 이정표와 가치관을 재정립하는 시너지 효과를 발휘할 수 있다.
명리학은 개인의 명운을 깊이 있게 통찰하는 삶의 지식과 지혜의 산물이다. 그것은 음양오행설에 기반을 둔 이론적 체계를 지닌다. 특히 󰡔子平眞詮󰡕의 格局論, 󰡔窮通寶鑑󰡕의 調候論, 󰡔滴天髓闡微󰡕의 體用論은 각각 명리학의 방법론적 수단이 되며, 음양의 범주에 따른 오행의 연관체계, 즉 相生과 相克의 관계를 통해 명운의 양립가능성을 해석하는 통로를 제공한다.
이와 관련하여 본고에서는 명리학의 이론을 체계적으로 서술하는 데에 다음과 같은 세 가지의 논점을 제시한다. 첫째, 격국론은 日干과 月支의 관계 구조를 통해 개인 삶의 근본적인 틀을 규명한다. 둘째, 조후론은 기후적 측면에서 오행의 조화를 통해 삶의 역동성과 변화를 설명한다. 셋째, 체용론은 주체와 객체의 상호작용을 탐구하여 명운의 본질적 작용을 밝히는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 이러한 세 가지 논법의 중심에는 用神의 방법론이 있다.
用神의 中和主義的 방법론은 전통적 명리학의 이론적 체계에 과정이 되며 이를 바탕으로 하여 通變의 상담콘텐츠를 확보할 수 있다. 이른바 통변의 상담콘텐츠는 인생의 旅程에 대한 시나리오의 구성을 통해 오히려 삶의 진실한 지침을 계도하는 논법과 관련된다. 따라서 팔자의 풀이와 같은 통변의 해석은 인생에서 과거의 기억이지만 단순히 과거를 의미하지 않는 과거의 逆說的 내용을 도출할 수 있다. 이러한 차원에서 풀이하는 통변은 인생의 무대에 공연하기 위해 작성하는 한편의 시나리오와 같다. 이러한 점에서 명리학의 이론적 체계에서 四柱의 구조에 따른 八字의 풀이는 인생의 여정보다 더 인생 같은 통변의 서사를 풀어갈 수 있다고 말할 수 있다.
명리학은 불확실한 사회에서 심리적 상담이나 심리적 치유에서 강조하는 인간의 내면과 그 주변 환경과의 관계를 고려한다. 이러한 점에서 그것은 인생관의 왜곡, 세계관의 굴절, 가치관의 붕괴 등의 고질적인 사회 문제를 완화 시킬 수 있는 시너지 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 이는 명리학이 단순히 전통적 점술의 영역을 넘어서 현대적 문화콘텐츠의 차원에서 인생의 旅程 속에 과거, 현재 및 미래의 연속선상에서 여전히 유효한 통찰력과 실천적 방향성을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper begins with the awareness of how traditional Minglixue can be embraced as a cultural phenomenon in modern society. The methodology of approaching the theory of Minglixue is crucial in this context. Methodology refers to the dynamic mechanism of Yongshen (用神), which organically structures the framework of the Four Pillars (Saju) and the skeletal structure of the Eight Characters (Palja). The approach of Yongshin is applied to three representative theoretical books of Mingli: Zipingzhenquan(子平眞詮), Qiongtongbaojian(窮通寶鑑), and Ditiansui Chanwei(滴天髓闡微). Each theoretical system is characterized as Geju doctrine (格局論), Zhouhu doctrine (調候論), and Tiyong doctrine (體用論), respectively. Through the application of Yongshen, the relational logic of Yongshen-Geju doctrine, the ecological logic of Yongshen-Zhouhu doctrine, and the transcendental logic of Yongshen-tiyong Theory are emphasized.
The so-called Yongshen(用神) operates based on the category(範疇) of Yin-Yang(陰陽) and utilizes the relational system of the five phases(五行). The method of Yongshen(用神) utilizes the category of Yin-Yang(陰陽) and the relational system of the five phases(五行) to optimally operate the framework of a destiny chart, particularly the structure of Mingli. The category of Yin-Yang(陰陽) can be characterized by a relational dynamic of opposition and unity. The relational system of the five phases(五行) is characterized by the cyclical processes of mutual support(相生) and mutual suppression(相克). Such optimal operation can be understood in the context of Zhongheism(中和主義), related to the issues of the nature of Zhonghe(中和). Therefore, the argument of Zhongheism(中和主義) regarding the Yongshen(用神) can be said to be a pathway to understanding the organic structure of Mingli and its integrative operation.
The zhongheism approach serves as an important foundation for the interpretation of destiny(命運) in the discourse of Interpretation(通變). The interpretation of divination is the task of correctly predicting and accurately judging the issues of fortune and misfortune(吉凶禍福) while weaving the storytelling of life within the compatibility of fate(命) and destiny(運). By organically connecting the historical journey(歷程) of life, events, and the characteristics of individuals along the continuum of past, present, and future, we create the overall flow of life’s journey. This involves creating a unified contextualization of life by utilizing the history of Mingli, the system of Mingli, the methodology of Minglixue(命理學), and examples of interpretation. This storytelling of life is understood as a cultural phenomenon in the context of modern cultural times, and furthermore, aligns with the context of cultural content that creates a unified contextualization of composition. This characteristic can be specialized as Minglixue-based scholarly cultural content. So-called Minglixue-based cultural content can be continuously transmitted and accepted through the special interpretative mechanism of Interpretation concerning the structure of the Four Pillars of Destiny and the interpretation of one's fate.
Modern times are a cultural era. Culture is a comprehensive form of life and has a long historical significance. Mingli content has contained and been passed down through the history of Mingli and the culture of specific eras. In modern times, Minglixue-based cultural content has established itself among the public. The increasing use of Mingli in various forms, especially in books, television programs, YouTube content, and social media, is a phenomenon that demonstrates the modern interpretative possibilities of Minglixue. In this way, culture refers to the values, norms, and lifestyles of humanity that are formed in specific eras within the flow of history. Culture is a comprehensive aggregation of life that arises from the process in which humans accept and interpret their experiences while living in a specific geographical environment.
Minglixue seeks to find answers to the fundamental issues of fortune and misfortune in human life. Since ancient times, humans have utilized astronomical knowledge and the laws of nature to understand their destiny and to overcome the anxiety of an uncertain future. Minglixue has developed in reflection of these practical human needs and has been utilized as a useful tool for solving various life issues and providing direction. It provides a unique perspective that organically connects the past, present, and future. The past serves as the foundation for the present, while the present becomes the cornerstone for the future. Minglixue aims to comprehensively understand human life along this temporal continuum and to explore the possibilities of the future through this understanding. Therefore, the interpretation of destiny can go beyond merely examining an individual's past, present, and future, and can create a synergy effect that reestablishes life’s milestones and values.
Minglixue is a product of profound insights into individual destiny, representing knowledge and wisdom for life. It is based on a theoretical system rooted in the theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Phases. In particular, the Geju doctrine of Zipingzhenquan, the Zhouho doctrine of Qiongtongbaojian, and the tiyong doctrine of Ditiansuichanwei serve as methodological tools in Mingli. Furthermore, they provide a pathway for interpreting the compatibility of destiny through the relational system of the Five Phases based on the categories of Yin-Yang, specifically through the concepts of mutual support(相生) and mutual restraint(相克).
In this regard, this paper presents three main points to systematically describe the theories of Minglixue. First, the GeGuk Theory(格局論) identifies the fundamental framework of an individual's life through the relational structure between Ri Gan(日干) and Yue Zhi(月支). Second, the Joho Theory(調候論) explains the dynamism and changes in life through the harmony of the Five Phases from a climatic perspective. Third, the Tiyong doctrine aims to clarify the essential functions of destiny by exploring the interaction between the subject and the object. At the center of these three theoris is the methodology of Yongshen.
The Zhongheism methodology of Yongshen forms an integral part of the theoretical system of traditional Mingli, and on this basis allows for the development of counseling content informed by Tongbian. The so-called counseling content of Tongbian is related to a logical approach that, through the construction of scenarios of life's journey, provides genuine guidance for living. Therefore, the interpretation of Tongbian, such as the analysis of Eight Characters, serves as a recollection of the past in life, but it can also generate paradoxical content of a 'past that does not signify the past.‘ In this dimension, the interpretation of Tongbian resembles a scenario written for the stage performance of life. In this sense, the interpretation of Eight Characters(八字) according to the structure of the Four Pillars(四柱) enables the construction of a life narrative that appears more lifelike than life itself.
The interpretation of Tongbian establishes a continuous relationship between the past and the future, starting from the present. In this context, the time of human experience possesses irreversible temporality from the perspective of present facts, while it also holds reversible temporality in terms of life's values. Humans have lived through the irreversible time of the past, but they reflect on the reversible time of the past. Therefore, the interpretation of Tongbian aims to reconcile the facts and values of life through the process in which irreversible time transforms into reversible time. In this integrative dimension, the meeting of the past and present can open up sustainable prospects for the future. In that perspective, one can envision the value-oriented goals of life's milestones.
Therefore, the study of Minglixue considers the relationship between the human inner self and its surrounding environment, as emphasized in psychological counseling and healing in uncertain societies. In this regard, it is expected to provide a synergistic effect that can alleviate chronic social issues such as the distortion of life perspectives, the refraction of worldviews, and the collapse of value systems. This suggests that the study of Minglixue can be expected to provide relevant insights and practical guidance within the continuous timeline of past, present, and future in life’s journey, transcending the realm of traditional divination into the dimension of modern cultural content.
