The major purpose of this paper is to study the methods and strategies for selection and modification of contents in the primary school textbook of Korean language. The main ideas for selection of contents are to select various materials of literature according to students`` language developmental levels, and to select various materials of literature considering their emotional and affective diver- sities. In addition, the main idea for modification of selected materials is to modify them according to the educational values of Korean language education, within the boundaries of original works`` characteristic styles, mood, an atmosphere. Specially, they should be prohibited from both modifying their characteristics and revlSlng their contents as flavorless, because it is recommendable to realize the goals of those modification in the classroom with special teaching methods, such as, critical reading like ``distance-building``, assimilated reading like ``identification with the hero``, and ete. This study is a kind of starting point to study about the selection and modification of contents in the textbook of Korean language and literature. So, A lots of studies like this should be carried out to improve both contents and structure in the textbook.
