An experimental study has been carried out on natural convection in the annulus between horizontal non-circular cylinders. A Mach-Zehnder interferometer was used to determine temperature distributions and local heat-transfer coefficients.
Results were obtained using air at atmospheric pressure with a diameter ratio D_(o)/D_(i)=2.6, and aspect ratio H/D_(i)=0.6 in range of Rayleigh number from 0.45×10⁴ to 1.98×10⁴, Comparisons between the existing numerical and present experimental results show good agreement.
