학령기 자폐성 장애아 어머니의 적응과정에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Adjustment Process of Mothers of Children with Autistic Disability in School Age

This study examined relationships between mothers` parenting stress, family functionality, social support, redefinition of family in dangerous situations, and psychological well-being in order to analyze the adjustment process of mothers of children with autistic disability in school age. Analysis data is based on responses of 181 mothers of children with autistic disability in school age, who live in Daegu city. Findings are as follows: First, the average of parenting stress of parenting stress of the mothers of the children with autistic disability in school age was relatively low, and the average of the family functionality and the redefinition of family in the critical situations was high. Second, the parenting stress of the mothers of the children with autistic disability in school age were exerting a significant effect on the family functionality, social support, redefinition of family in the critical situations, and psychological well-being. Family functionality and social support of the mothers of the children with autistic disability in school age were not exerting a significant effect on psychological well-being, and only a factor of redefinition of family of the critical situations was exerting a significant effect on psychological well-being. Third, it was found factors of family functionality of the mothers of the children with autistic disability in school age, social support, and redefinition of family in the critical situations play a role as a mediator between parenting stress and psychological well-being. Based on this analysis, intervention programs were proposed in order to enhance the well-being and the adjustment process of mothers of children with autistic disability in school age.
