The instantaneous temperatures on the piston crown, lands and skirt were measured and analyzed, and the following conclusions can be derived ; ( i ) The linkage system was developed for the measurement of the instantaneous surface temperature of the piston. (ii) The point of crank angle which designates the maximum instantaneous temperature of one cycle varies and moves back and forth by the measuring points and engine speeds, (iii) The engine speeds, the position of the measuring points and the cooling water temperature had an effect on the instantaneous temperature amplitude. (iv) The instantaneous temperature amplitudes appeared on the piston crown, top and 2nd-land of ring, but on the parts of the 3rd-land of the ring and skirt, they didn't appear.<br/>
