This study attempts to re-examine the discourse on ‘stupidity’, which has not received much academic attention, from the perspective of Avital Ronell. The target that Ronell aims for is the dependent thinking structure of Western philosophy, which is occupied by the violence of an irrevocable intelligence, and the violence inherent in the thinking structure. In Reading “Yellow Woman”, I seek to use the tools of Avital Ronell's “Stupidity” as storytelling. This study examines the distorted reason for stupidity in various versions of the Native American writer Silko's “Yellow Woman,” and examines how Silko practices creative writing, an aspect of stupidity. First, the stories of the various versions of the yellow woman are suturing, but there is still a void between them, and a new story is repeated from the void. This suture trace is the same context as Ronell's folly space. Second, Silko considers the circular and entangled structure of the web as the result of this writing, rather than the trajectory of the linear story unfolded by the Western discourse. Silko's story transforms the reader who reads it, not the passive audience, but an active creator who actively participates in generating the meaning of the story. This study examines how Silko's “Yellow Woman” story rewrites the stupidity of philosophy to suppress the creative writing and general writing as a symbolic realm of stupidity.
