This study aims to suggest cultural districts and policy design as an interdisciplinary research agenda. To reach that aim, this study conducted a review of literature including cultural district development in the U.S., and analyzed cultural district development’s early models, evolution, policy implementation tools and actors based on the review. Also, it discussed an overview of policy design conceptualization, and identified how this theoretical discussion can provide an effective framework for cultural district studies. P olicy design as a f ramework c an b e applied for examining this operationalization toward effective implementation. Moreover, cultural district development cases provide a fruitful environment to test theoretical discussions on policy design, when considering their common characteristics, the use of governance and multiple tools. Therefore, cultural districts and policy design should be studied as an interdisciplinary agenda. This interdisciplinary approach can add important implications to the fields such as local cultural policy and urban revitalization.
