손자녀 양육형태가 노부모와 성인자녀의 세대관계에 미치는 영향 = The impact of types of grandparent caregiving on the inter-generational relationship between grandparents and adult children

The purpose of the present study is to examine the impact of types of grandparent caregiving on the inter-generational relationship between grandparents and adult children based on social exchange theory. First wave data of the study of aging society and quality of life among Korean elderly was used. Subjects were 513 grandparents who had ever raised a grandchild and lived with a grandchild in the same house at the time of the interview. The type of grandparent caregiving was dychotomized into custodial caregiving and auxiliary caregiving. Group difference in the generational relationships between custodial and auxiliary caregiving was analyzed by t-test. The impact of the types of grandparent caregiving on the inter-generational relationship was analyzed through multiple regression.
The results of the t-test revealed that there were significant group differences in the level of satisfaction with role of adult children and the level of inter-generational relationship between custodial and auxiliary caregiving. Custodial grandparent caregiving was associated with lower level of satisfaction with role of adult children and lower level of inter-generational relationships. The results of the multiple regression showed that the types of grandparent caregiving significantly impacted on inter-generational relationship with controlling impacts of demographic characteristics of grandparents, supports from children, and patterns of attachment. Findings from this study emphasized the necessity of social compensation for custodial grandparenting. This study would be valued in that it examined the subjective aspect of inter-generational relationship, which had been overlooked in the previous studies, focusing on the point of view of grandparents

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 노부모에 의한 손자․녀 양육형태가 노부모와 성인자녀 사이의 관계의 질에 미치는 영향을 사회교환이론을 중심으로 분석하고자 했다. 고령화 사회와 한국 노인의 삶의 질에 관한 연구의 일 차년 자료가 분석되었다. 분석 대상은 손자․녀를 양육한 경험이 있으며 조사 당시 현재 손자․녀와 동일가구에 거주하는 513명의 노부모로 이루어졌다. 손자․녀 양육형태는 전담양육과 원조양육으로 이원화되어 분석되었다. 양육형태에 따른 세대관계의 차이는 t-test에 의해 분석되었고 양육형태가 세대관계에 미치는 영향은 중다회귀분석을 통해 조사되었다. t-test 결과 자녀역할 만족도와 자녀와의 관계는 양육형태에 따른 유의미한 집단차를 보였다. 전담양육 노부모는 원조양육 노부모와 비교해 상대적으로 낮은 자녀역할 만족도와 자녀와의 관계를 나타냈다. 중다회귀분석 결과, 손자․녀 양육형태가 세대관계에 미치는 영향은 노부모의 인구․사회․경제학적 특성, 자녀로부터의지지, 애착유형이 통제된 상태에서도 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 손자․녀 전담양육은 노부모에게 높은 비용을 부과함으로써 교환관계의 불균형을 야기하여 세대관계에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 노부모의 손자․녀 전담양육에 대한 사회적 보상의 필요성을 강조한다. 본 연구는 노부모의 시각에서, 가족간의 하향적 부양을 중심으로 기존 연구에서 소외되어왔던 세대관계의 주관적 측면을 고찰했다는 의의를 갖는다.
