The purpose of this article is to suggest a narrative identity of Paul Ricoeur, which is the method of establishing a new identity and maintaining self-respect. The married immigrant women confront disarray of identity in the durable moving condition, that is, the move from their own house to husband`s house and move from their mother land to Korea. However, assimilation education from immigrant country cannot establish their identity or enable them to live in a new country with self-respect. The married immigrant women live in Korea as ``the other`` like a guest, who are not invited. Taylor understood this as a suppressed condition, in which the person loses self-respect. The married immigrant women need recognition of the significant other to live happily and continuously in an immigrant country together with the family-in-law, including the husband. However, we must consider the power mechanism which is operated between the recognizing person and the recognized one. The married immigrant women cannot take an equal position with the family-in-law. In this situation, the married immigrant women confront the trouble of gaining the self-identity as a subject. Ricoeur`s ``narrative identity`` is considered one of the methods to solve this problem. Narrative identity means the identity created in front of the text. Ricoeur thought that self-identity as a subject can be gained through the interpretation of literary text. Narrative identity is constructed by the circulation of mimesis 1,2,3. According to Ricoeur, self-identity in front of the text does not mean a fixed identity that cannot be changed, but the changeable identity in the run of the time. In this article, it is suggested that the ``narrative identity`` formed in front of the text as an education method is applied in the field of education to teach the married immigrant women who can gain the new self-identity in the immigrant country.
