탈식민지 페미니스트 관점에서 역사 쓰기: 기지촌 여성의 경험과 기억의 재구성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 미군기지촌 여성의 경험을 역사화하고 그들의 개별적 경험이 어떻게 대한민국 근대사의 집단적 정치, 문화, 사회 제도 및 이데올로기와 연관되는지 탈식민주의 관점에서 분석하고자 한다. 구체적인 연구질문으로는 첫째, 기지촌 여성들의 경험이 어떠했는가, 둘째, 그들의 경험과 기억은 어떠한 정치, 경제, 문화적 구조와 교차하면서 구성되었는가이다. 이상과 같은 연구질문에 답하기 위해 본 연구자는 현재 안정리와 의정부 미군기지 주변에 모여 살고 있는 기지촌 할머니들의 기억을 통해 그들의 경험을 듣고 이를 통해 생산된 자료를 기록하고 분석하는 구술사(oral history) 연구를 수행하였다. 또한 기지촌 할머니들의 경험이 구성되었던 당시 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화에 대한 이해를 돕기 위해 정부문서, 신문 및 잡지 기사, 관련 여성단체(두레방, 새움터, 햇살복지센터 등) 자료집 등 일차자료를 수집하여 문헌연구를 병행하고자 한다. 본 연구의 주된 내용은 성별화된 민족주의, 여성주의 구술사, 탈식민지 페미니스트 인식론을 주요한 이론적 근거로 삼아 한국 근대사의 가장 두드러진 사회적 약자로서 숨겨져 왔던 기지촌 여성들을 역사의 장으로 불러내고 그들의 경험을 구조화하는 이데올로기와 제도적 장치들을 보여주고자 하였다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 기지촌 여성들의 구술을 통해 우리 사회에 그동안 비가시화되었던 서브알턴들의 경험과 기억이 포스트식민의 한국 근대사에서 민족주의와 교차하면서 어떻게 구성되는지, 경험을 구성하는 힘의 역학관계가 무엇인지를 규명하는 작업이 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to historicize the experiences of camptown prostitutes from a postcolonial feminist perspective. The ways in which camptown prostitutes have been continuously reconstituted through power dynamics in the postcolonial Korean context. Main question here is how women's experiences in kijich’on were (have been) constructed throughout the Korea’s modern history intertwined with androcentric culture, post/colonialism, racism, and gendered nationalism. Crucial to understand the underlying ideologies to constitute the kijich’on women is to explore the ways in which "yanggongju" have interacted with various subjects of GIs, Korean nationals, and people in kijich’on. Therefore, not just to hear their past history but also to understand the past in present embedded in their own personal herstories is an important process in this project. As such, this project that seeks to re/deconstruct the Korean 'formal' history through subaltern women's experiences will shed lights on feminist critique of gendered nationalism and on postcolonial methodology across various disciplines of sociology, history, anthropology, and women's studies.
