Any thought provides room to be interpreted again by the difference of time and space. A thought spotlighted in an era will disappear silently after a certain time, while one never spotlighted will emit great light after several centuries. Of course, there do stand unchangeable thoughts over times. However, sometimes we live through, eagerly seeking relative values rather than absolute values, even acknowledging propositions conflicting to each other.
People live their life according to each one's view of life, in "Confucian attitude emphasizing knowing the Heavenly decrees, or Taoist attitude adopting oneself to the Heavenly decrees, or Moist attitude acknowledging only one's own efforts excluding the Heavenly decrees." It may be much more abundant philosophy to deal with situations with flexible attitude rather than to keep going with a single values.
This thesis presents another values necessary to live such an abundant life. It's Iptaeron presented through Wangchung's book, 『Nonhyeong』. This thesis tried to review Wangchung's 『Nonhyeong』 as source of current Iptaeron and to consider its meaning once more.
The book shows Wangchung's fatalistic opinion that the destiny like life and death or high and low is predestined just like the orbits of heavenly bodies so that it can not be added or subtracted by human power
Wangchung's fatalistic opinion as such becomes Iptaeron in human aspect. It means that a man is predestined by the thick or thin of energy right at the moment of conception in his mother's body. Wangchung acknowledged Seongsampum Theory that it is possible to change a posteriori concerning nature, but highly negated changing a posteriori in which human will is inserted concerning Myeong(life).
The purpose of this study is to examine Wangchung's view of Iptaeron, and based on it, to discuss current Iptaeron. In the concrete, this research compares the Yin-and-Yang thought in 『Nonhyeong』 to that of other scholars and the Myeonggi thought in 『Nonhyeong』 to that of other scholars to investigate the characteristics of Wangchung's Yin-and-Yang thought and MyeongGi thought. And finally, this research reveals current Iptaeron in detail, and through this discussions, considers that what kind of lesson Wangchung's Iptaeron would give us in modern times.
First, concerning Yin-and-Yang thought, Wangchung named the physical and the mental as Yin and Yang respectively emphasizing the harmony of body and mind, that is, Yin and Yang.
Second, concerning Myeonggi thought, Wangchung speculated that all things are created as the heaven grants Gi(energy) to the earth while moving. He judged all things are created by themselves, being sure that Gi(energy) is absolute requirements for all things generation as he maintains that Gi do not create all things directly, but all things can not come into being without Gi.
Third, Wangchung separated men from heaven by excluding the supernatural from heaven and understood that all things are natural result generated by the operation of energy that is given in the moving process of heaven. Wangchung's Jeongmyeong Theory is summarized as follows.
First, parents can affect a lot on deciding children's life with their conception and prenatal care.
Second, men can bring up energy that manages demand through food that men take while living through.
Lastly, besides Myeong(life), accidental elements like Jo(遭), Woo(遇), Sin(辛), Woo(偶) and Gungmyeong(國命) can intervene in Myeong(life). However, Wangchung's Myeong Theory should be understood in terms of Jeongmyeong Theory that it never changes once determined at the moment of conception.
Though Wangchung's Jeongmyeong Theory is absolute and inevitable, nobody knows its Myeong(life) is, according to Mukja, good or ill luck. Our life might be abundant when we make proper efforts according to the instructions of 『the Book of Changes』, no matter what Myeong, rather than what kind of Myeong, is given to us.
There is a comment in 『Nonhyeong』, "If you do not know the modern, but the old, you are just an inflexible man, while if you do not know the old, but the modern, you are just like the blind." The reason I researched on Iptaeron regarded as something old is that I was regrettable as a Myeongnihak scholar that Iptae is gradually forgotten though our ancestors emphasized its importance, so I wanted to address the importance of Iptae to next generations and to practice. I set out this research wishing that a great figure is born at this country to become a world-class and historical leader.
