국제통화질서와 이지적 리더십 = 미디어담론 분석을 통해서 본 달러헤게모니의 이해

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Not only is the current international monetary system based upon U.S. dollar an artificial one but it also embodies a set of problems such as deepening indebtedness of U.S. economy and repetitive currency crises. However, most of middle and small size countries largely fail to shed a critical light on structural dilemma of the system and instead pay primary attention to fixing domestic rules. This paper thus starts with the sense that such a phenomenon had much to do with an hegemonic order maintained by intellectual and moral authority of the ruling bloc. While proposing an intellectual leadership model, then, this paper attempts to verify the adoptability of the model by looking at reproducing mechanism of dominant discourses across the international societies. For this purpose, total 300 articles related to the euro and dollar crisis have been analyzed in term of frame.
Research results indicate that U.S. news media as a part of the ruling bloc have been actively engaging in discursive battles not only for preserving dollar system but also blocking the development of alternative monetary order. In acting an alternative bloc, instead, European and East Asian media attempted to challenge the status quo by pinpointing structural problems and proposing unorthodox remedies. South Korean media have reproduced hegemonic discourses though and resulted in helping U.S. media to reach out indirectly to Korean society. Putting these results into perspective, the author claims that U.S. intellectual leadership takes an essential part in successfully managing the current system.
