The purpose of this study is to develop strategies for the 7th curriculum amendment concerning elementary Practical arts education, specifically in the area of home economics. First, this study identifies problems found in current practical arts textbooks by analyzing the previously published materials related on the validity of the textbooks.
The problems identified were the unbalanced portions of the tables of contents, figures and pictures compared to the contents and the level of grades. Evaluation formats could not represent the accurate measuring level according to the characteristics of each unit because of their lack of variety and monotony. The validity of contents and grade levels of the textbooks showed the more space and content needs to be devoted to student attitudes and to developing their potentiality; however, the living skills which the textbooks wished to transfer to the student were rather successfully completed by the experience of practical demonstrations.
The strategies for editing the 7th practical arts textbooks were as follows:
First, understanding the role of the family and the concept of family life and work should be emphasized in the unit "Family Life and I".
Second, thinking skills and intellectual development through practice ad authentic learning experience should be considered in the unit "Living Skills".
And lastly, the concepts of reasonable consumer attitudes should be reinforced in the unit "Home Management of Living Environment Resources".
