중세 수도원운동의 이념과 그 교육사적 공헌

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to examine the ideal of the Medieval Monastery Movement in the West and its contributions to educational history. Hopefully, it could help us understand the purpose of education from a wider historical perspective. The reason that this paper focuses especially on the Benedictine Order is that the Regula Sancti Benedicti (the Rule of St. Benedict) established by founder St. Benedict, who lived through the fall of the Western Roman Empire, is still used as the basis for monastery life to the present day. Because of this, I expect to be able to get a glimpse into the ideal of the Medieval Monastery Movement and its educational aspects. What follows is an examination of the everyday ideal of medieval people through the Regula Sancti Benedicti based on the case of the Benedictine Order; then an examination of Western monasteries that inherited the tradition with a focus on Lectio Divina, a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading, meditation, and prayer; and finally a contemplation on the contributions of the Monastery Movement to the history of education. For modern people who have forgotten, the Medieval Monastery Movement is a reminder of the highest level of academic pursuit; one can confidently say that it was an educational movement that sought sacred leisure.
