북한은 현상유지 국가인가? = 김정일 시기 북한의 국가성향 고찰

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article intends to study North Korea’s state orientation under Kim Jong-il. International relations researchers tend to divide states into status quo powers and revisionist powers. Status quo powers are content with the current distribution of power among states. In contrast, revisionist powers actively seek to transform the status quo even using the military means. Then, using the language of international relations, was North Korea under Kim Jong-il a status quo power? This article maintains that North Korea at the time constituted a revisionist power considering that it actively sought to upset the prevailing balance of power between the two Koreas as manifested by its ardent pursuit of nuclear and missile programs.
