초기 기독교학교의 신앙교육 비교 고찰 -배재, 경신, 대성, 오산학교를 중심으로- = A Comparative Study on Faith Education at Early Christian Schools -Based on Paichai, Kyungshin, Daesung, and Osan school-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to provide help for today`s Christian Schools to re-establish the identity of Christian Schools through examining faith education at early Christian Schools in Korea. To this end, among Christian Schools built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. each two schools founded by foreign missionaries and Korean leaders have been selected and examined. This study found out similarities and differences related to faith education at these four schools. The faith taught at Paichai, Kyungshin, Daesung, and Osan Schools was not confined to religious area, such as worship and prayer, but rather associated to the whole of life. The students learned at the schools that faith should result in dedication to the service for society and nation. The faith education mainly occurred at Bible time and worship services, in addition at extracurricular activities like student government activities. Especially students learned faith from the teachers who were deeply dedicated to Christianity. There were differences between these Christian Schools. Paichai and Kyungshin Schools built by missionaries emphasized faith education and at the same time tried to nurture the men of culture with the spirit of democracy. On the other side, Daesung and Osan Schools built by Korean leaders emphasized the education of nationalism based on Christianity and tried to nurture the men with the spirit of nationalism. Finally, some implications to today`s Christian Schools have been suggested.
