SAE ARP 4754 and 4761 guidelines, which provide guidance on the development process and safety assessment process for civil aircraft, were first published in 1996. Afterwards, as aircraft with new configurations and propulsion systems were developed, the importance of safety was further emphasized, and revised editions of ARP 4754 and 4761 were published to support advanced aircraft development technology. This paper analyzed what changes and emphasis were made to ARP 4754, revised in 2010 and 2023, and ARP 4761, revised in 2023, compared to the first edition. The revisions to ARP 4754 and 4761 contain updated design and safety assessment examples for hypothetical airplane, and are revised simultaneously in 2023 to strike a balance between the two guidelines. In addition, techniques in line with the latest technological developments, such as model-based safety assessment, were introduced.
