카미자르 : 루이 14세 통치후반기 절대군주정에 대한 민중의 저항 = Camisards : People’s Resistance to Loui’s XIV’s Absolute Monarchy in His Late Reign

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 카미자르(Camisards) 반란의 성격에 대한 분석을 통해 이 반란이 루이 14세 통치 후반기 절대군주정에 대한 민중의 저항적 움직임의 한 사례였음을 규명해보고자 하는 것이다.
1661년 친정체제의 선포와 동시에 루이 14세는 ‘한 사람의 왕, 하나의 종교, 하나의 법’(un roi, une religion, une loi)을 모토로 절대왕권의 강화를 목표로 했다. 때문에 수적으로는 미미하지만 활동으로 볼 때 결코 무시할 수 없는 당대의 ‘시대적 반항아들’인 위그노들은 루이 14세에게 인정될 수 없었다. 결국 국가전반에 걸친 종교적 통일정책이 나타나게 되었으니 그것이 곧 1685년의 낭트칙령 철회이다.
낭트칙령 철회이후 남프랑스의 세벤(Cevennes) 지역에서는 표면적으로만 개종한 신교도들이 비밀리에 소집되어 신교도식 예배를 봄으로써 자신들의 신앙을 고수했다. 세벤 지역은 1560년대에 프로테스탄티즘이 침투한 후 채 30년이 되기도 전에 약 90%이상의 주민들이 위그노가 된 곳이다. 바로 이들 세벤 지역의 위그노들을 가리켜 카미자르라 한다. 이들의 신앙은 ‘광신적 예언주의’로도 표현되는 신비주의적 색채를 띠는 가운데 무장반란화하게 되는데 카미자르 반란이 그것이다. 카미자르 반란은, 낭트칙령 철회를 통해 하나의 종교안에 신민들을 통합, 절대군주정을 확립하고자 한 루이 14세의 목표에 타격을 가한 역사적 사건이자 루이 14세 통치 후반기 절대군주정 체제에 대한 민중의 저항이라 할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the war of the Camisards as the example of resistance of the people against the absolute monarchy during the late years of King Louis XIV’s reign through the analysis of the character of it.
In 1661, Louis XIV declared direct government system and set his sights on strengthening the absolute royal authority under the motto ‘un roi, une religion, une loi’. Therefore, Louis XIV had no choice but to recognize the Huguenots who have long been ‘the rebel of the times’. Because they were few in number but were nothing to sneeze in terms of their activity. Eventually, the policy of the unity of religion appeared throughout the country. That was the revocation in 1685. Apparently, the Protestants converted in Cevennes, a region of the southern France at the time of the revocation. But actually, they remained their faith. They had taken part in an assembly and attend the Protestant church service. In Cevennes, over 90 percent of the local community converted to Protestant in less than 30years since Protestantism passed throughout the region in the 1560’s. It refers to Huguenot in Cevennes as Carmizards. Their faith assumed a mystic character that was expressed as ‘chauvinistic prophetism’ and they raised an armed revolt, the war of the Camisards. It was a historical event that hit Louis XIV’ purpose-for reinforcing the absolute monarchy- to integrate the people into a religion through revocation. Also it was resistance of the people against the absolute monarchy during the late years of King Louis XIV’s reign.
