The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of participant behaviors of children during a board game in a kindergarten. Observation was conducted in one public kindergarten classroom for six months. Field notes and videotapes obtained through observation were analyzed through four steps. The results demonstrate that children exhibited different traits which in turn had different social meanings. Children`s behaviors can be classified into eight categories. When they play board games, children`s priorities are on interest and winning. They are interested in playing by the game`s rules or breaking them. Their other priorities are based on playing skillfully, being sociable, peer relations, gender, and role.
