청소년 동성애자의 반동성애 폭력경험과심리사회적 특성 = A Study on the Anti-gay Violence Experience andPsychosocial Characteristics of Homosexual Youths

This study is an exploratory study to examine the realities of anti-gay violence and the effects on homosexual youths' psychosocial characteristics, on which there has been no research conducted as yet in Korea. A survey was conducted with 63 homosexual adolescents aged 13-18 through snowball sampling method. The findings suggest that half of the respondents reported verbal assaults due to their sexual orientation and 10% of the respondents reported physical assaults, which indicated a serious level of anti-homosexual sentiment and threats of violence against homosexuals in Korean society. From this, an observation between the psychosocial characteristics of the respondents and anti-gay violence was carried out：gender, age, ‘coming-out' and ‘outing' frequency, depression, suicidal risk and delinquency level were associated with the anti-gay violence experiences of the respondents. Recommendations for counseling and other social work practice for the homosexual adolescents were made based on the results of the study.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

◈본 연구는 아직까지 우리사회에서 잘 드러나지 못한 청소년 동성애자들의 반동성애 폭력경험에 대한 실태와 함께 그것이 심리사회적 특성에 미치는 영향을 탐색적으로 살펴보기 위한 연구이다. 이를 위하여 만 13세에서 18세의 청소년 동성애자를 대상으로 눈덩이 표집을 통해 총 63명을 조사하였다. 조사 결과 청소년 동성애자들의 절반 이상이 언어적 폭력을 당한 적이 있으며 20%정도는 신체적 폭력의 위협을, 그리고 심각한 신체적 폭력의 경우도 10% 이상이 경험한 것으로 나타나서 반동성애 폭력경험의 정도가 심각한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 남자 청소년인 경우, 나이가 어릴수록, 커밍아웃을 많이 했을수록, 아웃팅의 경험이 있는 경우 폭력경험이 더 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 반동성애 폭력경험이 많은 청소년 동성애자일수록 우울과 자살의 위험성이 높고 학교적응의 어려움이 많았으며 비행의 정도가 심한 것으로 나타나 이에 대한 사회적 관심과 개입이 필요함을 보여준다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 앞으로 청소년 동성애자를 위한 사회적 개입 및 전문적 실천에 있어서의 함의를 제시하였다.
