The purpose of this study is to suggest how corporations can support effective culture and arts programs in schools to fulfill their corporate social responsibility. The study analyzed survey from 185 elementary school students who had experienced a two-hour music listening program which was part of the On Dream School sponsored by the Hyundai Motor Mong-koo Chung Foundation.
The results of our study showed a positive correlation between student expectations of the program, their satisfaction with the program, their satisfaction with preparation for and follow up to the program, the particular music pieces selected for the students to hear, their level of concentration on the music, and the desire to listen to music afterwards. This suggests that corporations should consider all of these factors when planning a corporate culture and arts program. The study also found gender differences in terms of student expectations and student satisfaction, which should also be taken into account. Finally, this one-time program left positive effects on students, so that corporations should consider providing a healthy number of such short extracurricular school programs to give students the opportunity to experience a variety of culture and arts education programs.
This study provides the basic data needed for businesses who seek to fulfill their corporate social responsibility by hosting cooperative culture and arts programs in the schools.
