십이지(十二支) 동물 관련 속담을 활용한 효과적인 경제교육 = Effective economic education using the Chinese zodiac(sib-i-ji: 十二支) proverbs

Even though the economic education is essential for everyone in the era of uncertainty, many people still overlook the importance of economics because of their preconception that the economics is difficult, boring, stiff, theoretical, impractical and pedantic. In this study, I sought a easy, fun, and practical economy teaching-learning method using the Chinese zodiac(sib-i-ji: 十二支) proverbs which are widely used in the everyday life. The signs of the zodiac is composed of friendly animals, the dynamic media which enable teachers, students, and parents to form consensus about economic education, which arouse students` curiosity and interest and which are expected to be easily applied in the education. Each animal symbolizes various concepts and characteristics as following: - mice : thrift and savings, economic incentives, and un-productivity - bulls : diligence, income, capital, business failures, and un-productivity - tigers : entrepreneurship, brand, tax, and protective trade - rabbits : opportunity cost, demand, and comparative advantage - dragons : business success and failure - snakes : uncertainty and un-productivity - horses : scarcity, economic incentives, marketing, and human capital - sheep : credibility and productivity - monkeys : professionalism, unfair distribution, and business failure - chickens : substitutes, business failure, and un-productivity - dogs : economic incentives, luxury/waste, income/consumption, diligence, capital, and unfair distribution - pigs : rational consumption, luxury/waste, and un-productivity Moreover, it is the first study that shows the relationship between Chinese zodiac animals and economic concepts through Korean proverbs and provides a new method of teaching-learning in economic education. For this reason, the value of this competitive study is in the practicality, interdisciplinary, and glocalization.
