This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between spatial heterogeneity within cities and socio-demographic characteristics. Using the 2025 social survey data of Mokpo City, hypotheses were established to test whether factors such as age, household composition, education level, occupation, and income influence the selection of residential areas, and their effects on the urban spatial structure were analyzed. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and spatial distribution analysis were employed, and the hypotheses were tested using the Jamovi statistical program. The results indicate that Mokpo exhibits clear spatial heterogeneity across regions. The old downtown area shows a high proportion of elderly residents and single-person households, while new towns and developing areas have a higher concentration of young and economically active populations. In addition, disparities in education, occupation, and income reveal spatial differentiation of socioeconomic inequality. These findings suggest that socio-demographic factors play a significant role in shaping urban spatial structure, highlighting the need for urban policies that address spatial heterogeneity and promote balanced development.
