This paper first examines key developments of the Bitcoin, which is the most widely used virtual internet currency, and then uses the Bitcoin prices in denominated in the US dollar (USD), Euro, and Chinese RMB to calculate the purchasing power parity exchange rates implied by the law of one price. The PPP Euro/USD exchange rate and the official euro/USD exchange rate were found to have a cointegrating relationship using weekly data from March 2012 to November 2013 sample period. Further examination using a bivarate VECM show that the official exchange rate appears exogenous in the bivariate dynamic relationship. It is also found that the PPP USD/RMB exchange rate deviates more from the official exchange rate and more volatile when compared with the Euro/USD.
