The purpose of this study is to determine protective factors which encourage the children of an alcoholic parent to adjust themselves to college life despite the situation of high risk caused by their parent`s alcoholism. Participants in this study are 820 college students in Seoul and Gyeonggi province at the age between 18 and 27, among which ACOAs are 272. I rendered collected data into Descriptive analysis, Independent Sample T-test, Pearson`s Correlation, and Hierarchical Regression analysis, using SPSS WIN/12.0. As a result of analysis, it is revealed that the parent`s alcoholism carries negative effects on four dimensions of college adjustment(full adjustment, academic adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, and institutional attachment) except social adjustment. And, I verified that, among the protective factors from the previous studies, the moderators buffering between parent`s alcoholism and college adjustment are spirituality, father attachment, and mother attachment. As I examined the differences among ACOAs groups concerning factors from which moderating effects were verified, only mother attachment showed difference in terms of college full adjustment. In following studies based upon this study, I expect the following projects: to elucidate the differences among the genders of ACOAs; to develop and apply the spirituality scale which does not conflict with cultural background; to study including late adolescents, who don`t go to college, in the same age as college student as a reference group; to enlarge the intervention of various variables encouraging college adjustment such as coping skill, self-esteem, humor, creativity, self-efficiency, academic achievement, parent-child relation, and social skill.
