This paper investigates the relationship between Tathāgatagarbha thought and Buddhist practice based on Tathāgatagarbha thought. This paper examines the meaning of Tathāgatagarbha in sutras and the relationship of Tathāgatagarbha thought and Buddhist practice.
Although Tathāgatagarbha thought cannot be seen in Early Buddhist sutras, it is a self-nature, self-centered mind(自性淸淨心), and dyed with all kinds of desires and desires, so even though the original mind is unreliable(客塵煩惱染), it is enveloped in desires. Mahayana Buddhist sutras explain Tathāgatagarbha,
Mahayana sutras says, Tathāgatagarbha will showing up diffuse of the dharma’s body theory of Avatamsaka Sutra, retribution body of Saddharmapundarika Sutra, submit to the Throne of Buddha’s body theory of Mahaparinirvana Sutra. And laid out below Śrīmālādevī-Siṃhanāda-Sūtra, Tathāgatagarbha-Sūtra, Anūnatvāpūrṇatvanirdésa-Sūtra that classified as Three Tathāgatagarbha sutras and Ratnagotra-vibhāga.
Tathāgatagarbha thought is that all sentient beings are becoming Buddha, showing the Buddhist practice and experience based on belief. It means that Tathāgatagarbha thought’s practice is start from belief of dharma and belief in oneself. Tathāgatagarbha thought is religious practice based on faith through ritual practice. And The foundation for Buddhist rituals as a training process is established.
The limitations of this paper are that it is a tentative investigation into the relationship between practice and rituals of Tathāgatagarbha thought.
