This study attempts to describe subculture of homeless people in urban Korea. especially by focusing on their lifestyles and self-identities. The major findings were as follows:
Homeless people have their own lifestyles and unique sub-culture that include their own attitudes and values. Homeless culture was based on the lack of education and employment opportunities and sustainable under the influences of poverty culture.
They embraced a sub-culture of homeless through the daily lives and established their own self-identities as their functional survival strategy. So, they accept their life experiences on the streets as a way of life and they have low self-esteem and little respect for themselves.
In conclusion, These findings help explain why homeless people have a difficult struggle to get out of the state of homelessness.
