The main purpose of this study explores a method and strategy that student-readers are able to understand and feel a poem as text in textbook. This study suggests that we use an activity and strategy of transfer-writing a poem in textbook on understanding and feeling it. Because the strategy of transfer-writing a poem is able to evoke student-readers to their experiences related and synthesized with the poem.
This study is intended to reveal evocation effect for understanding and feeling poetry. The concept of evocation is a operation system to assist and promote understanding and feeling, experiences, memories, and knowledge during student-readers' reading and transfer-writing a poem For this study I examined the activity of transfer-writing a poem to 224 three-year students in two middle school. Every students transfer-wrote a poem as text in textbook and wrote their ideas and responses about activity of transfer-writing a poem by examination plan.
The result of transfer-writing activity a poem is very effective and positive. First, students evoke some images, ideas, feelings, experiences, memories, and knowledges related the poem during reading and transfer-writing it. And we can know that the evocation operates powerfully upon the readers both for understanding and feeling a poem. Second, recreated poems and responses by 224 students through the activity of transfer-writing a poem show that they have operated evocation. So I student-reader easily and lightly understand and feel a poem in textbook. Third, the strategy of transfer-writing a poem is to assist and promote understanding and feeling poetry as text in textbook. We can apply this strategy to understand and feel student-readers poetry instruction.
