서양 중세도시의 커뮤니케이션과 네트워크

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 서양 중세도시의 내부적 발전뿐만 아니라 외부세계와의 상호교류와 접촉을 동시에 살펴봄으로써 중세도시가 가지고 있었던 역동성과 문제점을 총체적으로 이해하려고 한다. 본 연구진은 커뮤니케이션과 네트워크라는 관점이 위의 목표를 달성하는데 가장 효과적인 방법론이라는 결론에 도달했다. 본 연구의 세부 주제들은 커뮤니케이션과 네트워크에 따른 일차적인 구분 이외에도 공간상의 고려에 따라 세심하게 선택된 것이다.
커뮤니케이션 분야에서는 두 개의 세부주제를 선정하였다. 1)도시 내부의 커뮤니케이션 : 샤르트르 대성당. 이 연구는 도시 내부의 커뮤니케이션을 성당이라는 공간을 중심으로 살펴봄으로써 대성당이 한 지역민의 신앙적 열정은 물론 애환과 숨결까지를 고스란히 담고 있던 커뮤니케이션의 중심지였음을 밝히고자 한다. 이 같은 작업은 서양 중세도시와 도시민의 생활상을 보다 잘 이해할 수 있는 새로운 사례가 될 것이다. 2) 도시와 외부 세계와의 커뮤니케이션: 중세 성기 프랑스 북부의 도시와 농촌. 기존의 학설에 따르면, 서양 중세에 도시와 농촌은 서로 이질적인 존재였고, 물리적으로나 경제적으로도 양자는 분리되어 있었다. 그러나 중세 성기 프랑스 북부의 도시와 농촌 간의 커뮤니케이션에 관한 이 연구는 도시와 농촌의 공생관계(symbiotic relations)를 구명하고 양자의 커뮤니케이션이 어떻게 이루어지고 있었는가를 보다 구체적인 측면에서 살펴보고자 한다. 네트워크 분야에서는 세 개의 세부주제를 선정하였다. 1) 도시 지배층과 통치 네트워크:12세기 말 런던. 이 연구는 12세기말 런던의 경우를 통해서 도시 내의 어떤 집단이 어떤 인적 네트워크를 활용해 도시를 통치했는가를 밝히려고 한다. 2)지적 네트워크와 지식 전파:12 세기 파리. 이 연구는 12세기 파리에서 활동했던 지식인들을 통해서, 교육과 지식이 어떤 지적 네트워크를 통해 유포되었는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 이러한 지식인들과 그들의 네트워크가 12세기 파리가 유럽의 대표적인 학문 중심지로 부상할 수 근거가 되었음을 보여주고자 한다. 3)종교 네트워크: 산티아고 데 콤포스텔라. 이 글에서는 산티아고 데 콤포스텔라 순례여행의 사례를 통해 중세 종교 네트워크는 중세도시 간의 교류와 접촉에 매우 중요한 역할을 했음을 밝히고자 한다. 하지만 커뮤니케이션과 네트워크는 상호 긴밀하게 연결되어 있기 때문에, 두 가지 요소를 함께 살펴볼 필요성이 제기된다. 그래서 본 연구에서는 두 관점을 동시에 포괄하는 세 개의 세부주제를 선정하였다. 1) 상인의 네트워크와 커뮤니케이션 : 한자 도시를 중심으로. 이 글에서는 커뮤니케이션과 네트워크의 발전이 상호 긴밀하게 연결되어 있었다는 사실을 한자 도시와 상인들을 통해 밝히고자 한다. 2) 내부의 갈등과 외부로의 전달 수단으로서의 네트워크 : 프랑스 북부 도시들의 반란. 이 글은 중세 말 프랑스 북부 도시의 사례를 통해 도시내부의 계층간의 커뮤니케이션이 원활하지 않아 사회적 불만으로 표출되거나 반란으로까지 발전하면, 그것이 인적 물적 네트워크를 통해 이웃 도시들로 퍼져나간 현상을 살펴보고자 한다. 3) 정보 교류의 수단으로서 해상 네트워크 : 중세 말 베네치아. 이 글에서는 베네치아 해상 네트워크가 상품과 인력의 수송뿐만 아니라 정보와 서신의 교류에 지대한 공헌을 했고, 정보와 서신의 교류가 이미 중세 말 상당

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The research aims to understand the medieval cities of Europe by studying the internal development and the external relationships of the medieval cities. We came to the conclusion that the subject " communication and networks" is a most effective methodology to accomplish this research. Detailed subjects of the research were selected in consideration of the space.
We selected three detailed subjects for the communication field. 1) Communication in the city : Cathedral of Chartres in France as a center where bourgeois make a communications, religious, economic, cultural etc. This work reveals both religious and social aspects of daily life of medieval bourgeois. 2) Communication of different religious groups in the city : Multi-cultures in Cuenca in the iberian peninsula. 3) communication between the city and outer world : communication between Angers and its neighboring villages. This work shows theirs symbiotic relations through economic and social communications.
We selected three detailed subjects for the network field. 1) Socio-political network in the city : power elites in London and their political networks in the 12-13th centuries. 2) Intellectual networks in the city : Intellectual Networks in Paris in Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries. Paris became a center of education thanks to activities of medieval celebrated intellectuals not only from Paris but also other countries. 3) Religious networks : The Medieval Pilgrimage: Journey in Networking and Cities. The medieval religious travel to one of the holy cities, Santiago de Compostella, contributed to the development of the cities around the pilgrimage routes.
But it is necessary to observe together two elements, communication and network, because that they are closely related. We selected three detailed subjects which include two viewpoints simultaneously. 1) Commercial network and communication : Network of Hanseatic Trader. This work tries to find the existence of commercial networks already established, before the formation of the Hansa. 2) Networks as means of diffusion of internal conflict : The Network of the Urban Revolts in Northen France. Urban revolt, caused by the social conflicts in a city, spread rapidly through the commercial networks between Paris and Flandres. 3) Maritime network as means of exchange of informations : Maritime Network of Venice in the Later Middle Ages. Venetian maritime infrastructure which transported merchandises, diffused also information and correspondence.
