      Purpose : The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of Kamiinsamyangyoungtang (KIT) on the immune response and blood formation in C57 BL/6 mice.
      Method : we study effect of the administration of Kamiinsamyangyoungtang water extract(KIT) on the cell viability of Concanavalin A treated-thymocytes and lipopolysaccharide treated-splenocytes in C57BL/6 mice. Also we study effect of KIT on the subpopulation of murine thymocytes and murine splenocytes, the production of -Interferon, interleukin-4 and nterleukin-2 in murine splenocytes and on the change of RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit in anemic rats induced by phenylhydrazine·HCl
      Result : KIT decreased the cell viability of thymocytes in vivo and in vitro system, but did not affect the cell viability of splenocytes. Also, KIT did not affect the population of helper T (Th) cells and cytotoxic T (Tc) cells in thymocytes, but decreased the population of B-lymphocytes and the population of Th cells in splenocytes. In addition, KIT decreased the production of -interferon, but did not affect the production of interleukin-2 and interleukin-4 in splenocytes. KIT increased the production of nitric oxide in vivo and in vitro system. Furthermore, KIT enhanced the phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages in vivo, but decreased the phagocytic activity in vitro system. KIT partly recovered the number of RBC, the volume of hemoglobin and the value of hemacrit decreased by phenylhydrazine at 10 days.
      Conclusion : These results suggest that KIT inhibits the specific immune response via decrease of the viability of thymocytes and the population of B-lymphocytes in splenocytes and stimulates the non-specific immunity via enhancement of phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages and recover the level of RBC and hemoglobin.
