This article advocates the use of peer editing as a basis for increasing student writingability, for reducing teacher teacher paper load, and for providing a focused basis for grading and commenting on papers. The use of writing rubrics is introduced and examples provided. Additional resources are available on internet sites mentioned in the article. This article discusses the merits of the popular 6-Traits Writing Model. A rationale for use of the 6-Traits Model is given, and a trait-by-trait discussion of each of the 6-Traits follows.
