The purpose of this study is to examine primary school students' perception and participatory demands about dance instruction. For the purpose surveyed 368 primary school students using a modified version of questionnaire form, initially developed by Kim, Han-ki(1997), and which consisted of total 45 question items, Data obtained from the survey were satatistically processed using SPSS 10.0 Program, and One-Way ANOVA to test mean difference among groups. Then x2-test was performed to determine frequency difference among groups. The result of the study is described as follows.
First, some children, regardless with their gender, who liked to receive dance instruction responded that dance itself was very interesting and that they were originally competent in performing dance. While other children who didn't like dance instruction said that they were little interested in dance, The things which primary school children wished to learn in receiving dance instruction were aerobic and hip-hop. And they most preferred a 5th class or above as the time of the instruction.
Second, for children's perception of dance instruction in accordance with their gender, girl students felt themselves more effects of the instruction on obtaining beauty, techniques, physical health, social skills, order consciousness and mental health than boy ones.
Third, girl students had more participatory demands for dance instruction than boy ones in regard to beauty, techniques, physical health, stability, mental health and self-satisfaction.
