페레스-레베르테의 ‘고단한 영웅’ 의미 고찰 = 『공성전』을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main purpose of this thesis is to identify the meaning of “heroes cansados” in the novel El asedio written by the Spanish writer Arturo Perez-Reverte.
Perez-Reverte, who already had created a symbolic character called Capitan Alatriste, has consistently used a weary, exhausted heroic characters in all of his novels from his maiden work to his latest work. However, his heros differ from the traditional heros. While a mythical hero solves his problem simply with the help of the mythical gods or other magical tools, Perez-Revertes heros do their heroic action only to survive in the chaotic world. The only key word for all the heros in Perez-Revertes novels is ‘survival’.
In Perez-Revertes point of view, all modern heros are weary and exhausted. Is is easy to become a hero when one believes in his country and love, but it is difficult to fight when one does not believe in anything anymore. However, the only reason that many heros still fight with their swords and shields is not because of their faith or self-esteem, but because they always have done so.
Through “heroes cansado”, Perez-Reverte aims to talk about every individual and then the human race as a whole. Plus, Perez-Reverte attempts to analyze the present through the past which is the main stage for historical novels. This is because the author believes that the history has basically repeated itself since the beginning of the world.
