현대예술매체의 투명성에 관한 신화 = A Myth on the Transparency in Contemporary Art Media

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Contemporary art media as new media is discussed by expanding previous applications and interpretations in the study. This study opens up the discourse on the exhibition "Mirrors and Windows" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, 1978, considers the designated categories in the way of photographic expressions, and suggests new discourses on contemporary media art pursuing convergence of mirrors and windows. Beyond the early photographic way of daguerreotype's mirroring and optical mirror effects, characteristics of digital media in media art are considered based on multilateral interpretations of mirrors and expansion of windows, and new possibilities and characteristics of new media are produced in the study. Discourses and experiments on digital and analogue media through contemporary media art are not confined to the pursuit of virtuality. Based on the reconsideration of traditional media, experiments on the invisible and its physical presentation are progressed in media art. Thus, this study defines those predictable and expandable media as new media, and discusses possibilities of contemporary art media as new media.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 1978년 뉴욕 현대미술관에서 열린 ‘거울과 창 (Mirrors and Windows)' 전시를 통하여 설정된 사진의 표현 방법과 현대의 미디어아트를 통하여 재설정되는 거울과 창의 혼용되는 현상을 유비적으로 고찰함으로서, 새로운 예술매체에 관한 확장적 적용과 해석을 논구한다. 초기사진인 다게레오타잎 (daguerreotype)의 거울적인 측면과 사진의 방법론이 갖는 광학적인 거울효과를 넘어, 본 연구는 다원적인 거울과 확장적인 창으로 전개되는 미디어아트의 매체적 특징을 논의함으로서 새로운 예술매체가 갖는 가능성과 특징을 논구한다. 현대의 미디어아트를 통해 전개되는 디지털 미디어와 아날로그 미디어에 대한 다양한 실험과 논의는 디지털기반의 미디어를 주로 사용함에도 불구하고 가상에 관한 추구에만 한정되지 않는다. 기존의 매체에 대한 재고를 바탕으로 보이지 않는 것에 관한 실험과 그 물리적인 재현에 관한 가역적인 시도가 미디어아트에서 다양하게 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 실례를 바탕으로 예견되는 확장적인 매체들을 뉴미디어로 규정하고 현대 예술매체로서의 그 가능성을 논구한다.
