      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The relationship between ethical consumption and conventional civic engagement has been underexamined in terms of individual differences in psychological factors. In fact, existing work in this area has been conducted in Western societies, even though the use of ethical consumption as a civic practice is not a phenomenon limited to certain areas. To set out to address the gap in literature, the current study examined the link between ethical consumption and civic engagement in South Korea. In particular, it focused Person and Thing Orientations, which have been known to stimulate individual differences. For this goal, an extensive online survey (n = 500) was conducted. The findings showed that ethical consumption correlated positively with public and private civic engagement, which echoed the results of several previous studies. Moreover, the relationships between ethical consumption and public and private civic engagement were moderated by Person and Thing Orientations, such that ethical consumers higher in Person and Thing Orientations were likely to be more engaged in public and private civic engagement. However, a simple slope analysis revealed that the positive relationship between ethical consumption and public engagement was not statistically significant among consumers lower in Person Orientations. Implications were discussed.
