The unitized regenerative fuel cell (URFC) combines the functions of a fuel cell and electrolysis in a single cell, enabling bidirectional energy conversion. However, implementing both functions presents significant challenges in catalyst composition and performance enhancement. While many studies focus on high-performance catalysts with high Pt content, there is a lack of experimental research on the electrochemical performance of Ir and Ru catalysts at low currents. In this study, we investigates the electrochemical performance of Ir and Ru catalysts with low Pt content to provide fundamental data for the URFC membrane electrode assembly development. The results of this study indicate that the electrochemical performance of Ir, Ru, and Ir/Ru catalysts increased with higher catalyst content in fuel cell mode. However, as the content of Ru catalyst increased to more than 2 mg, the electrochemical performance of the fuel cell mode of URFC decreased.
