일하는 어머니들의 이중노동부담에 관한 실증연구 = An Empirical Study on the Dual Burden of Labour Among Working Mothers

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 2004년 생활시간자료를 이용하여, 일하는 어머니들의 이중노동부담을 실증적으로 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 성별과 가구유형에 따른 생활시간 구조를 분석하였고, 총 노동시간과 무급가사노동시간에 대한 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 주요 독립변수로는 성별, 가구유형, 성분업에 대한 인식, 미취학 아동 유무 등이 설정되었다. 본 연구의 주요 실증분석결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 일-가족-여가로 구성된 생활시간 구조를 살펴보면, 일하는 어머니들은 전업주부 및 모든 가구유형의 아버지들보다 훨씬 더 큰 시간압박에 시달리고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 총 노동시간과 무급가사노동시간에 대한 회귀분석 결과도, 일하는 어머니들의 시간압박과 그에 따른 생활시간 질적 저하의 근본원인이 경제활동여부 자체가 아닌 젠더관계에 있다는 이중노동부담 가설을 강력하게 지지하고 있었다. 셋째, 남성의 경우 가구유형의 차이에 따른 총노동시간과 무급가사노동시간의 차이가 크지 않았지만, 여성들의 경우 전업주부에 비하여 한부모 및 맞벌이 어머니들의 생활세계는 매우 열악한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 이러한 실증분석 결과를 바탕으로 일하는 어머니들의 이중노동부담을 경감시킬 수 있는 정책대안으로서 아버지의 육아휴직할당제, 보육시설확충 및 보육비용의 사회화 등을 제안하였다.

The purpose of the study is to analyse the dual burden of labour among working mothers. Utilising 2004 Time Use Survey, the study identifies the overall time use structure and carries out multiple regression analysis on the total working time and unpaid domestic working time. Major independent variables includes gender, household types, perception on the traditional gender division of labour, and the existence of pre-school child. The findings of the study are as follows. First, working mothers are facing larger time pressure than fathers do. Secondly, the results from the regression models support the dual burden hypothesis. Thirdly, among women, working mothers including double career wives and single mothers have inferior time use structure than full-time housewives do. Based on these findings, the study has suggested policy alternatives to alleviate the dual burden of labour of working mothers.
