비영리조직의 형성에 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇인가?: 노인돌봄종합 및 가사간병방문지원서비스 제공기관을 대상으로 = What causes nonprofit organizations` entry into the social service sector: Evidence from Korea`s voucher program for the elderly and the disadvantaged

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In spite of the importance of the entry of nonprofit organizations into the voucher program, little research has been conducted concerning the determinants of entry. Drawing on the economic theory of entry and theory of nonprofit formation, this study addresses the following questions: (1) how we identify the entry model of nonprofits in social service quasi-markets and (2) what factors affect entry of nonprofit organizations based on our empirical entry model. This paper uses data on all nonprofit entrants and all possible entering counties from 2008 to 2011 in Korea’s voucher programs for the elderly and the disadvantaged. The results show that the entry of nonprofit organizations is influenced by not only profitability (market size) but also regional need and government support factors. This empirical evidence supports government failure and interdependence theory. However, the magnitude of the impact of government support is likely to decrease due to a market mechanism. The discussion here develops the theories of nonprofit formation by laying empirical building blocks and also takes the first step in exploring determinants of entry of nonprofit organizations into the social service delivery system based on market mechanism.
