김정은 집권 시기 북한의 전략결정요인에 관한 해석적 연구 = Interpretive research on strategic determinants of North Korea during Kim Jong-un`s reign

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this research is to search for a conceptual framework of strategic determinants of North Korea. Research has been focused on identifying determinants leading to North Korea`s choice of strategy, from a logical point of view of J. Child`s theory of strategic choice, and by identifying North Korea`s strategy in shifting domestic and foreign situation. Research was conducted by interpretive study of literature, intuitive insight, and keen observation of North Korea`s behavioral pattern. This research first takes the correlation between national interests, objectives, and strategies, and with it looks at North Korea`s strategic choice in North Korea`s strategic determination system, and internal and external strategic environment. At the national level, Kim Jung-Un`s unstable government is resulting in a “Kim Il-Sung” type of authoritative foothold to be established by reign of terror, while internationally, pursuit of niche strategy to take actions against the Republic of Korea by exploiting limitations presented to ROK/US combined defense posture, as well as in the strategic conflict between United States and China has been successful. The root cause of North Korea to choose these strategies is Kim Jung-Un regime`s strategic situational recognition to submit to risk, as well as its military ideology and strategic culture stemmed from Kim Il-Sung perception of military. North Korea`s survival interest is identified in this study to be Kim Jung-Un`s power struggle as the core determinant. Therefore, in order to anticipate North Korea`s strategic move, the use of conceptual framework of root effects and core determinants would be most effective.
