󰡔주역󰡕에 대한 왕충의 이해 -점서와 참위설에 대한 비판을 중심으로- = Wang-chong's understanding of the Book of Changes -focusing on criticism of Fortune-telling, Prophecy and Apocryphal Texts-

Wang-chong was a philosopher of the late Han Dynasty and he expressed his views on the Book of Changes in the Balanced Discourses. At that time, the Theory of image and number, Fortunetelling, Prognostication and Apocryphal Texts were very popular, and Wang-chong considered these theories to be related to the Book of Changes. This paper explores how Wang-chong understands the Book of Changes. According to Wang-chong, fortunetelling can never be trusted, he use a variety of arguments to express doubts about the fortunetelling. On the other hands, he points out that there is also a limit to Prognostication and Apocryphal Texts that developed Theory of mutual sympathy between heaven and man and explains that king's politics does not affect natural phenomenon. It was luck and will of heaven that Wang-chong introduced Fortunetelling and Prognostication and Apocryphal Texts to the wrong place. In other words, all human lives are determined by luck, and this luck is thought to be based on will of heaven. Therefore, he argues that even if human studies the Book of Changes, they cannot grasp will of heaven. In other words, Wang-chong misunderstands the Book of Changes in part but on the other hand, he expresses that the Book of Changes and fortune and misfortune of humans have nothing to do with each other.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

왕충은 후한의 철학자로 󰡔논형󰡕에서 󰡔주역󰡕에 대한 자신의 견해를 표출한다. 당시에는 상수역·점서·참위설이 매우 유행하였는데, 왕충은 이러한 이론들이 󰡔주역󰡕과 관련이 있는 것으로 여겼다. 본 논문은 왕충이 󰡔주역󰡕을 어떻게 이해하고 있는가에 대해 탐구해본다. 왕충에 따르면 점서는 결코 믿을 수 없는 것으로 그는 다양한 논증을 통해 점서에 대해 의문을 표시한다. 한편 그는 천인감응설을 발전시킨 참위설 또한 한계가 있음을 지적하고 군주의 정치가 상식에서 벗어난 자연현상에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 점을 논술한다. 점서와 참위설을 부정한 자리에 왕충이 도입한 것은 바로 운과 명이었다. 인간의 모든 삶은 운이 결정하며 이러한 운은 명에 근거한다고 생각한 것이다. 따라서 그는 󰡔주역󰡕을 연구하더라도 명은 파악할 수 없다고 주장한다. 즉 왕충은 한편으로 󰡔주역󰡕을 일부 오해하고 있지만 다른 한편으로는 󰡔주역󰡕과 인간의 화복은 아무런 관련이 없음을 피력한다.
