To verify the aspacts of acceptance in which Tang and Song poetic styles were introduced into the poems of the Koryo dynasty, I examine the distinct features of Tang poetry. It is certain that Tang poets are emotional, and Song poets intelligent. As the result, the poetic self is usually absorbed in the poetic object in Tang poetry, but in Song poetry, they are apart each other at a certain distance, and the former objectifies the latter. The social atmosphere of the times helps to form such a Song poetic style.
Mantangpoong(晩唐風) style is prevalent in the late Silla and early Koryo period, Song poetic style in the mid period of Koryo, and the refined and correct poetic style influenced by Song Confucianism in the late pepiod. We can find Mandangpoong(晩唐風) style in Choi Chiwon(崔致遠)’s poetry. Mangdangpoong style comes into full bloom in Jung Jisang (鄭知常)’s poetry. In the late period, Jung Mongju(鄭夢周), Lee Saek(李穡), follow both the Tang and the Song style.
After the mid period, when the Song period’s poetic anthologies begin to be introduced, and So Dongpa(蘇東坡)’s and Hwang Sanggok(黃山谷)’s versification and poetic theory are prevalent, the full scale books on poetic theory appear. In the late period, When the Song Confucianism is introduced, poems are composed on the profound theories in the scriptures and the two-fold meaning system of objects.
We can find Song poetic style in the poems of Lee Ihhhnno(李仁老), Jin Wha(陳澕), Lee Jehyun(李齊賢), Lee Seungin(李崇仁), and in the poems of Jung Mongju(鄭夢周), Won Chonsok(元天錫), and Lee Saek(李穡) compose poems in Yomnakpooong(濂洛風)’style. The chief characteristics are divided into three major categories The ultimate purpose of Yomnakpooong(濂洛風) poems consist in the return of human nature. It is a good ebidence that Koryo is the period of Chinese poetry’taking root.
