After graduating from college, I had an opportunity to work at Nan Gye Orchestra for Korean Traditional Music and devoted myself to studying traditional music, classical music, and creative music. However, since I had performed music as a group rather than an accompanist, a recital increased the burden laid on me. Perhaps, I thought that the chance to perform a concert for earning a master's degree came to me as my destiny when I considered to have an individual recital.
First of all, I was much worried about choosing a tune. I liked to perform 'Chung-sung-ja-jin-han-yep', an endless instrumental tune for a large transverse bamboo flute that needs a long musical performance career and studies and the general public are used to. And the tune was selected to perform deeply moving sounds that only Kim Dong Jin's style of san-jo has since it was the most distinctive pop that stands out the musical characteristics of a performance in comparison with other instrumental tunes such as 'Kim Dong Jin's style of dae-guem-san-jo' that had opened my way of life. In addition, creative tunes such as 'Da-hyang' and 'Yeon', delight and splendid tunes, were selected for the recital that allowed the audience to get close tunes with comfort.
I faced many difficulties while preparing the recital. Since I had a full schedule of a concert for public relation with an orchestra for Korean traditional music and an invitation concert, I often practiced in an out-of-the-way place or in a car in the early morning when no one appeared due to a lack of time. Furthermore, I was so tired physically since I played a leading role in preparing pamphlets, and setting up a stage, and lights to meet my high satisfaction level for my first recital. Although the recital was designed to earn a master's degree, I tried my best to make the recital wonderful.
Chung-sung-ja-jin-han-yep: the most representative classic solo also it is also called Chung-jung-gok or Yo-cheon-sun-il-ji-gok that means high and clean.
Kim Dong Jin's style of dae-guem-san-jo: created by Kim Dong Jin's brilliant artistry and creativity. Especially, the harmony between Ge-myun and Woo-jo and the power to appeal are excellent.
Creative tune 'Da-hayng': used as a memorial tune for Kim Sung Jin. It begins with a slow tempo of 4/4 battuta, had cadenzais, the structural characteristics of Western music, in the style of exorcism (Guk-gu-ree) and Ja-jin-mo-ree, based on traditional rhythm and ends with stretta.
Creative tune 'Yeon': the first performance tune that means 'flowing like water.' It was created by redefining the 'flowing, present perfect' beauty of a cello to the melodies on the piano under the definition that 'purity,' 'nature,' and 'humans' are the beautiful one.
Finally, Dae-guem recital was finished successful. While performing my last tune, I wished that the last tune would never end and I would be with the wonderful audience at the wonderful stage.
Lastly, as the title of the recital was 'Sum-bee-so-ree,' I promised myself to become a musician who makes an every effort for wonderful music, refreshing myself for next goal rather than simply breathing. When music as the scent of mind steals over a tune, the performance will move the audience. A large transverse bamboo flute is self-discipline and the union of education, moral training, and physical exercise should precede for 'Juk-dae' of self-discipline.
