무용전공자들의 진로선택 과정 탐색 : 2020년 서울형 뉴딜 일자리 청년무용예술가 인턴사업 참여 사례 중심

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 무용전공자들의 진로 문제를 파악하고, 진로 문제를 해결하기 위해 서울시에서 진행한 「2020년 서울형 뉴딜 일자리 청년예술가 인턴사업」참여자들의 사례를 분석하여 무용전공자들에게 뉴딜 인턴사업 참여경험이 진로선택 측면에서 어떠한 의미가 있는지 이해하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 이를 토대로 뉴딜 인턴사업이 무용전공자들에게 실제적인 도움이 될 수 있는 방안을 모색하여 무용전공자들의 진로선택에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 방안을 마련하는 것에 근거를 제시하고자 한다. 뉴딜사업 참여자 100명 중 의도적 표본추출법을 사용하여 5명을 선정하여 심층면담을 진행하고, 관련자료 수집 및 선행연구 등을 조사·분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 무용 전공자들은 ‘무용’ 관련 분야에 진출하기를 희망하였으나 다른 분야에 비해 진출 기회가 턱없이 부족하고, 다른 진로선택의 길도 능력적 어려움을 가지고 있어 마땅히 취업할 곳이 없는 상황에서 경제적 부담과 심리적 불안 등의 어려움을 겪고 있다.
둘째, 뉴딜인턴사업의 참여 배경은 지인의 추천, 자발적 참여로 나타난다. 실연단원이나 행정지원 참여자 모두 전공과 관련된 직업연계를 희망하며 참여하게 되었다.
셋째, 뉴딜인턴사업은 무용전공자들에게 경제적인 안정감을 가져다주는 반면에 직무향상 및 취업진로를 해결해 주지는 못하였다. 행정 분야는 실지적인 배움도 없었으며 협회에서 실시하는 열린 강의도 그다지 큰 도움은 되지 못했다.
넷째, 참여자들의 진로 선택에 있어서도 큰 의미를 가지지 못했다. 인턴 경력이 연장되지 못하는 상황이 발생하면서 1년도 되지 않는 인턴 경력은 어디에도 내밀 수가 없는 상황이 되었다.
이러한 결과를 바탕으로 뉴딜 일자리 청년예술가 지원사업에 대한 몇 가지 제언을 하고자 한다. 무용전공자들의 진로 문제를 단면적으로만 바라보는 것이 아니라 무용단의 설립 및 재정적 지원을 통해 전공자들이 무용수로서 활동할 수 있도록 하며, 공교육 기관에서 무용교육이 의무화 될 수 있도록 제도를 정비해야 한다. 정부가 주도하는 공공의 관점에서 문화예술의 정책적인 변화가 필요하다. 그리고 뉴딜인턴 사업은 예산집행, 기획으로 끝나는 사업으로 머물지 말고, 참여자들이 자신의 기량을 충분히 발휘할 수 있도록 이를 제도적으로 뒷받침해야 한다. 실지적인 도움이 될 수 있는 체계적인 교육 강의, 단기간 일회성이 아닌 지속적인 강의로 진행되어야 하며 참여자들이 다른 곳으로 가더라도 경력으로 인정될 수 있도록 인턴기간을 최소 1년으로 진행하거나 연장을 시켜줄 필요가 있다. 따라서 향후에 무용전공자들의 직업 안정성과 성취에 실지적으로 기여할 수 있는 체계적인 시스템 변화가 진로선택에 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzes the participants in the ‘2020 Seoul New Deal Internship Program for Young Dancers’ implemented by the Seoul government and aims to understand how involvement in this program has helped the graduates with bachelor degrees in dance with their career choices. It has the purpose of identifying the career issues faced by the graduates with dance degrees and helping to solve them.
This research will seek the solutions with which the New Deal Internship Program can become more effective to improve dance graduates’ difficulty choosing their career and have positive impacts on their career. It will also propose supporting grounds for solutions. Of the 100participants in the New Deal Program, 5 people were selected through the method of purposive sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted with the selected participants.Research was performed to analyze related materials and primary data. These arethe results of the study.
Firstly, even though the graduates with bachelor degrees in dance hoped to seek career opportunities in the ‘dance’ field, there were a lot less opportunities for them compared to other fields.
Moreover, they have difficulty finding jobs indifferent areas due to their non-transferrable skills, which may result in them suffering from financial burdens and anxiety.
Secondly, the way graduates began participating in the New Deal Program is either a recommendation of their acquaintances or voluntary engagement. Both performing artists and administrative staff engaged in the NewDeal Program with the hope of getting new job opportunities related to theirdegrees.
Thirdly, the New Deal Internship Program provided thegraduates with a feeling of financial security. However it did not help theparticipants improve their work skills or ability to seek jobs. In theadministrative cohort, the graduates did not acquire any practical skills andthe lectures held by the association were not useful, either.
Finally, the New Deal Program did not significantlyinfluence the participants’ career choices. The problem was not only thatgraduates’ internship contracts were not supposed to be renewed but theirinternship experience of less than 1 year could not play a significant rolewhen they tried to find other job opportunities.
As a result of these findings, I propose somesolutions regarding the 2020 Seoul New Deal Internship Program for YoungDancers. It is necessary to stop seeing the problem of dance graduates’ careerchoices from a one-dimensional point of view. Instead, it is suggested thatgraduates should be enabled to work as dancers by government founded dancetroupes whilst also financially supporting the graduates. In addition, the educationsystem should be changed to make dance education mandatory in publicinstitutions. As a result, changes in policies of culture and art are neededwithin the government.
Moreover, the New Deal Internship Program should notstay as a superficial part of the government's budget, instead it shouldprovide systemic support for participants to perform at their potential. Thelectures provided by the program should be continuous and systematic toeffectively help participants as opposed to single occurrences. It is alsodesirable to extend the duration of the internship with a minimum of 1 year sothat the graduates’ experience can be valued even if they move to other jobs.Therefore, future systemic changes to the program will be helpful for dancegraduates’ career decisions if the changes can contribute to their improved jobsecurity and future accomplishments.
