This research is purposed to assist children adapt to school in an appropriate way and this study has been looking into the child-mother attachment and the participation in class and school to see what sort of relationship do they have with school adjustments. Additionally, by disclosing the influence the participation in school has on school adjustments, this study is intended to provide fundamental data in developing programs and concrete solutions for counseling center, education and family, improving the school adjustments of children.
In order to do this, the 547 copies of the survey have been distributed to the 4^(th) graders and 6^(th)graders attending 4 different elementary schools located on MokPo district, Jeon-La-Nam Province. The criterion employed in this research for measuring child-mother attachment was the revised version of Armsden & Greenberg’s Inventory of Parents and Peer Attachment (IPPA-R). What 田代高章 of 2002 classified as school adjustment criteria and the scale of school adjustments of the researcher Hong Sung Ae, who has been studying on the basic area of school participation in children was applied. Furthermore, to measure child school adjustments, the criteria of children school adjustments of Lim Jung Soon(1993) was also taken into consideration and the revised criteria of children school adjustments of You Eun Hee has also been used.
SPSS WIN 14.0 was used for data analysis. Moreover, to grasp the socio-demographic background of the subjects, the frequency analysis (frequency, percentage, average and the standard deviation) was performed and to confirm the credibility of the instrument of measuring the frequency, Cronbach A was used. What is more, two-way ANOVA was put into practice to see whether child-mother attachment, school participation and school related adjustments might vary among the sex and grade. Pearson product moment correlation coefficientanalysis was performed to see the school participation is correlated to school adjustment. After the analysis was done, the regression analysis was utilized to observe whether what kind of influence the schoolparticipation has on school adjustments.
As a result, the main outcomes of this study are like the below.
First of all, it has been discovered that the child attachment varied significantly by grades of school and the communication, credibility and alienation in attachment scale of 4^(th) graders rated higher than those of the 6^(th) graders.
Secondly, it has been found out that the school participationvaried considerably by grades of school and the school participation of the 4^(th) graders was more intense than that of the 6^(th) graders, especially when it comes to curriculum subjects.
Thirdly, it has been found out that considering gender in school adjustment, the female children were more flexible than the males in making school adjustments. Taking grade into consideration, the 4^(th)graders adapted to school better than the 6^(th) graders, resulting peer relation at the top and then, learning attitude, and then the relation between the student and teacher, and observance of school rules.
Fourthly, it has been revealed that there is correlation between school participation and school adjustments, which means that the higher the school participation, the higher school adjustment.
Fifthly, it suggests that the school participation represented to all subsidiary factors of school adjustments not to mention relation between teacher and student, peer relationship, schoolmanagement, class management. In other words, if the child participates actively in subjects in and out of curriculum, schoolmanagement and class management, it is quite likely that the child will also take an active role in making peer relationship, school classes, and observing the school rules.
