This study identified latent profiles of trauma experiences among adults and examined differences in the traumatized self-system, social support, self-compassion, and unconditional self-acceptance across profiles. Participants were 348 adults who completed measures of trauma experiences, traumatized self-system, perceived social support, self-compassion, and unconditional self-acceptance. Latent profile analysis identified three groups: a low-trauma group, a complex-trauma group, and a relational-personal trauma group. Gender significantly predicted profile membership, whereas age did not. The complex-trauma group showed the highest levels of traumatized self-system, followed by the relational-personal trauma group and the low-trauma group. Groups with higher trauma experiences reported lower levels of social support and feedback-based self-acceptance, and higher levels of self-judgment and over-identification.
These findings suggest that adult trauma experiences are heterogeneous and that trauma profiles are associated with self-system damage and vulnerabilities in relational and self-related psychological resources.
