정의에 대한 새로운 인식 : Honneth와 Fraser의 인정이론을 통해 본 현대 사회에서의 정의 = Justice and the Recognition Theories of Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 현재의 행정학에서의 정의이론이 부와 손실의 재분배 문제에 집착하면서 현재 새롭게 대두되는 “정체성의 정치”, “다문화주의” 등에 대응하지 못하고 있다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 이와 같은 새로운 환경에서의 정의론은 무엇보다도 개인이나 집단의 문화적 정체성과 그것의 인정문제를 핵심주제로 삼지 않을 수 없다. 특히 인정문제는 지금 서구의 정치, 사회철학 분야에서 다각도에서 논의가 진행 중이지만 아직 우리나라의 행정학계에서는 이것이 본격적으로 논의되고 있지 못하다. 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 본 연구는 인정이론의 두 대표적 학자인 호네트와 프레이저의 주장들을 논점별로 정리 비교하면서 현대 사회의 정의론에서 인정이 지니는 의미와 실천적 함의를 분명히 하고자 한다. 호네트와 프레이저는 정의의 실현을 위해서는 올바른 인정질서가 필수적인 것으로 주장하지만 자신들의 이론을 서로 다른 철학적, 윤리적 전제로부터 도출하면서 분배와 인정간의 관계에 대하여는 상이한 주장을 하고 있다. 본 연구는 이런 쟁점들을 분명히 하면서 앞으로 인정에 관한 논의가 학문적으로나 실천적으로 활성화되는 기초를 마련하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Study starts from the recognition that the justice theory in public administration has not been able to deal properly with such new phenomena as identity politics and multiculturalism, as it has persistently focused on the problem of redistribution as the key area of social justice. As a way of introducing the cultural perspective into the discussion of justice in public administration,this study attempts to analyze the recognition theories of Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser,particularly emphasizing their different epistemological and moral standpoints. Although both scholars insist on the need to embrace recognition perspective when studying the preconditions of social justice, they differ in terms of whether redistribution and recognition have an independent importance in establishing justice theory and whether moral right has a priority over ethical goodness, or vice vera. After delineating the commonalities and differences of both theories, I will suggest we need a more comprehensive perspective which not only overcomes the theoretical weaknesses of respective theories, but also brings to light the unobserved, unnamed, and excluded dimensions(people) that both theories fail to recognize.
