      The present study investigates the effect of the social capital on the knowledge creation of instructional design teams and proposes an instructional design model. For the purpose of the study, the researcher reviewed relevant literature including knowledge management and social capital theory, established an initial theoretical model and several research hypotheses, and empirically tested the suggested hypotheses. Based on the data collected from 39 pre-service teachers, the initial model was tested and corrected. Results indicate 1) the relational dimension and the cognitive dimension of the social capital in the participant groups predicted the quality of the knowledge creation, which in this case the instructional materials developed, 2) the structural dimension predicted the quality of the knowledge creation only via the relational dimension. Based on the results, several implications were drawn. 1) more research efforts should be exerted in investigating the social capital theory for the improvement of the instructional design theory, 2) relational dimension such as mutual trust, empathy, and openness among the instructional design teams should be considered for the better performance of instructional design projects.
